Várias cerimónias assinalaram centenário da morte de rei.
No primeiro dia de Fevereiro, assinalou-se com alguns eventos o centenário da morte do rei D. Carlos I e do príncipe D. Luís Filipe. Ambos foram mortos a tiro, no Terreiro do Paço, em Lisboa, num momento em que, à conspiração republicana, se somavam vários descontentes monárquicos e a determinação de carbonários e anarquistas.
No primeiro de Fevereiro, centenário do regicídio, o Presidente da República vai descerrar em cascais uma estátua do rei D. Carlos.
Às 10 da manhã, o escritor José Jorge Letria, autor de um livro sobre o dia em que mataram o rei, promoveu no Terreiro do Paço uma conversa sobre o regicídio com alunos de várias escolas.
José Jorge Letria considera que este «foi um dos acontecimentos mais mediáticos da história [de Portugal] a par do 25 de Abril». «Não vejo outro que tenha tido este impacto», salienta.
Ainda no Terreiro do Paço, local do regicídio, a fundação D. Manuel II promoveu, às 17 horas, uma homenagem que conta com a presença do chefe da casa real portuguesa, Duarte Pio de Bragança.
A morte do rei D. Carlos e do seu filho primogénito, D. Luís, é vista como o derradeiro acontecimento para o derrube da monarquia. A república foi instaurada dois anos depois, a 5 de Outubro de 1910.
